Three types of clients come to us for OEM and ODM cable services. E-commerce brand owners who want cables made under their own label. Hardware startups who need a factory partner to help design from concept. And large OEMs who want us as a second-source or overflow supplier. The workflows differ, but the basics are the same: you own the end product and your brand, we handle manufacturing, documentation, and shipping. Minimums start at 500 pieces for private label cable, 100 pieces for custom ODM designs. Most new programs ship first product within 6–10 weeks from drawing approval or ODM sign-off. We are a professional OEM cable manufacturer.
OEM vs ODM — Which One Do You Need?
The terms get used loosely, so here’s the straight version:
| OEM | ODM | |
|---|---|---|
| Who owns the design | You | You (after sign-off) |
| Who creates the drawing | You send it | We create it from your requirements |
| Engineering effort on our side | DFM review only | Full design from spec to drawing |
| Typical NRE | Low (tooling only if needed) | Higher (design time + tooling) |
| Timeline to first product | 3–5 weeks | 6–10 weeks |
| Best for | Established products, replacement suppliers | New products, startups, custom innovations |
Most of our business splits about 70% OEM / 30% ODM. Both work well. The choice depends on whether you already have a finished design or need help building one. If you’re not sure which you need, send us what you have — a drawing, a sample, a spec sheet, or just a description of what the cable should do — and we’ll tell you whether it’s an OEM quote or an ODM project.
What We Offer Under OEM Services & OEM Cable Manufacturer
OEM is the simpler path. You send a drawing, we build to it. Here’s what’s included:
- Drawing and BOM review. Our engineering team checks every drawing before quoting. If the spec has a problem — wrong wire gauge for the current, impossible connector combination, tolerance that will never pass QC — we flag it in the quote.
- Material sourcing to your AVL. If you require specific brands or part numbers, we buy from your approved vendor list. If no AVL exists, we source from our qualified suppliers.
- First Article Inspection (FAI). Every new OEM program starts with a documented first article build. Dimensional check, electrical test, material cert — delivered before mass production starts.
- Production to your drawing. We don’t substitute parts without written approval. If a connector goes EOL mid-production, we contact you for sign-off on alternatives, not the other way around.
- Documentation package. Certificate of Conformance, packing list, material certs. Additional documentation (PPAP, DHR, UL file numbers) added per your industry. See our quality and certifications page for full documentation scope.
What We Offer Under ODM Services
ODM is heavier on engineering. You describe what the cable needs to do; we figure out how to build it. Process looks like this:
- Requirements capture. We get on a call or email thread to understand the end product, the environment, the volume forecast, and the target landed cost. An NDA goes in place before this conversation if you want.
- Concept drawing + BOM proposal. Our engineers draft a working design — wire type, connector choice, shielding strategy, termination method. You see the concept in 5–10 business days.
- Cost-down iteration. First draft usually isn’t the lowest-cost path. We iterate with you on material alternatives, connector substitutes, and volume-based pricing until the design hits your target.
- Prototype build. 5–20 pieces built in our sample lab. You review, test, and approve (or request changes).
- Design freeze and tooling. Once approved, drawing is frozen, tooling is ordered, and the project moves to production planning. You own the final design — we don’t sell it to anyone else.
- Pilot run + mass production. First production batch is usually 100–500 pieces. Subsequent batches scale up per your forecast.
ODM is common for hardware startups, specialty product lines, and anyone who needs a cable that doesn’t match any off-the-shelf design. It costs more upfront in engineering time, but the product is yours — you won’t find it on a competitor’s shelf.
Private Label and White Label Cable Programs
For e-commerce brands, Amazon sellers, and specialty retail, we run private label cable production. Your logo, your packaging, shipped direct to your 3PL or blind-shipped to your end customer. Specific services under private label include:
- Custom branded cable jackets. Your brand printed or laser-etched directly on the cable jacket. Minimum print quantity typically 1,000 meters of jacketed cable.
- Overmolded logo branding. Your logo embossed directly into the overmolded strain relief. Tooling cost is one-time, then every cable carries the brand.
- Retail packaging. Custom boxes, blister packs, hang cards, printed inserts. We can print and pack, or receive your packaging and assemble.
- Blind drop-shipping. Ship direct to your customer with your return address on the package. Our name never appears.
- Amazon FBA prep. FNSKU labels, polybags, prep-service compliant packaging. Ship direct to the FBA warehouse.
The MOQ for private label depends on the customization level. Simple logo on existing cable — 500 pieces. Fully custom cable with branded packaging — usually 2,000–5,000 pieces for the first run.
IP Protection and NDA
This is where many buyers push back on Chinese manufacturers. Reasonable concern. Here’s how we handle it:
Mutual NDAs before drawing exchange. Standard. We sign yours; you sign ours. One page each, takes 24 hours.
Your design stays yours. ODM designs built for you are yours alone. We don’t sell the drawings, won’t pitch them to your competitors, and keep them in a restricted access area separate from our general production database.
Dedicated production cells on request. For clients with particular concerns — medical, aerospace, or proprietary consumer products — we can run dedicated production cells where only named operators have drawing access. Adds a small cost premium but removes most IP leak risk.
Exclusivity agreements available. For strategic products, we can sign exclusivity — meaning we won’t build the same or similar design for any competitor in your market. Terms negotiated per project.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the minimum order for OEM cable production?
100 pieces for OEM builds to your drawing. First run often includes a modest tooling or setup fee if custom hardware is needed. For ongoing programs, blanket orders can release as few as 30 pieces per draw.
How does pricing work for ODM engineering time?
For smaller ODM projects heading to production, we fold engineering cost into the first production batch — no separate engineering invoice. For research-only or pre-commit projects, engineering time is billed at a flat NRE rate quoted upfront. Either way, you know the total cost before work starts.
Can you help us find the right connectors if we don’t know what to specify?
Yes. This is a common question from startups. We stock specs for most major connector families (I-PEX, JST, Molex, Hirose, JAE, TE, Deutsch) and can recommend the right series based on your current, voltage, environment, and cost target. No extra charge for this consultation during quoting.
Do you provide first article samples before production?
Yes. First Article Inspection (FAI) is standard on every new OEM program and every ODM production release. You approve the first article before we start mass production. Revision control is documented.
Can you drop-ship to end customers with our branding?
Yes. Blind drop-shipping is standard for private label programs. We use your account with FedEx, DHL, or UPS (or arrange our own at your direction), and the package shows your return address and branding only. Our name stays off the shipment.
What payment terms do you offer for OEM/ODM programs?
First order: 30% deposit, 70% before shipment. For repeat clients with good payment history, Net 30 or Net 60 terms available on blanket orders. Wire transfer preferred for orders over $5,000; PayPal or Alipay for smaller prototype orders.
